Blocked File Attachment(s) when Sending Exchange Email

Question:

I am unable to send PDF or Word .doc files through Exchange.

When I check email in my Virginia Tech Exchange account, I get the message "Symantec Mail Security replaced the attachment with this text message. The original file contained error and was deleted.". What does this mean?
