NetApp storage maintenance

Saturday, January 19, 8am to Noon, maintenance will be performed on the central NetApp clustered storage systems known by several names: NAS (or network attached storage), skipper.cc.vt.edu (a.k.a. storage.vt.edu), minnow.cc.vt.edu, and dominion.

The following services rely on the NetApp and will be *unavailable* during the entire maintenance window:

  • Exchange
  • Banner Document Management System/Application Xtender

Subscribed users will have to reconnect the following services to their share after the NetApp maintenance:

  • Mystore and Mystore2 - personal shares for Windows and Mac users- some use this for Windows roaming profiles
  • Departmental shares on the NAS

Once maintenance on "minnow.cc.vt.edu" is completed, a failover/giveback to skipper.cc.vt.edu will cause a short pause for most services (see below). Users connecting to Windows shares such as Mystore, Mystore2 and Departmental shares will need to reconnect using their hokies ids/passwords:

  • VT Confluence
  • JIRA
  • Nolij
  • Banner Document Management System/Application Xtender
  • Learning Technologies Applications
    • Scholar
    • FDI Registration
    • SPOT Survey
    • iTunesU
  • Ensemble Content Management System, publishing only
  • Web Hosting
  • All hosted websites
    • MySQL Databases associated with hosted websites
    • VT Calendar (calendar.vt.edu)
    • VT Survey (survey.vt.edu)
  • Filebox - all fileboxes

 

Note: The Virginia Tech web site (www.vt.edu), Banner INB (forms) and SSB (HokieSpa) will NOT be affected by this maintenance.
